I have a set of A-1500A skis for sale and had a gentleman ask about the nomenclature. His question made me curious as to what the heck is the difference between the A-1500 and the A-1500A? Anone on here a walking encyclopedia on skis? Smiley

I'm no expert by any means, but was just looking at the Type Certificate Data Sheet for my Chief, and it shows the Federal A-1500 weighs 37 lbs, and the Federal A-1500A weighs 39 lbs.  I think the weight is for a pair. Don't know the difference from one model to another though.  I have seen some 1500s that were 8" wide, and others were 6" wide.  Jim Chuk

A1500 is a 6" bottom. A1500A is a 8.75" bottom, at least my 2 sets are. 6" bottom is better for a 65/75 hp plane as it take a lot more hp to get the wider ski moving in sticky snow. IMO the wider ski is worth about $300 to $400 more then the 6" skis if you have a need for them.

Thanks guys!!! These are definitely wide bottoms and then I had extended plastic (UHMV) installed on them making them 12" wide. Painted and all new rigging/bungies purchased but ended up selling the Champ that they were going to be put on. So now they are for sale.
